SOM Internship Work

My work at SOM ranged from editing rendered drawings of the San Diego County Courthouse, to developing the design of a small entry pavilion for the Daji Road development in Beijing, to working on conceptual variations for the Hefei City and Prince Bay developments.

Through this work I developed an appreciation for the work of a large and successful corporate architecture firm working on large scale commercial and institutional projects.

I worked on editing this facade detail for the Daji Road development project, using AutoCAD and Illustrator:

The Daji Road development in Beijing consists of two office buildings and an underground shopping mall. I worked on editing the presentation plans and sections in Adobe Illustrator:

In addition to helping with presentation drawings, I used Rhino to help to develop the design of a small entry pavilion giving access to the underground shopping mall and parking structure:

Beyond the Daji Road project, I also worked on the San Diego County Courthouse, helping to edit presentation drawings in Adobe Illustrator.

I also worked in Rhino on conceptual design for the Prince Bay development in Shanghai:

And on a mixed-use development in Hefei City, for which project I worked on developing design alternatives for the ground level layout under the direction of my supervisor.

Through these experiences I came to understand the importance of detail orientation and good presentation, as well as the fluid nature of design, especially at the conceptual stage. My experience was very valuable to me, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to work for SOM.
